Preparing for Horse Shows

Get ready for horse shows with our comprehensive guide. From training tips to packing lists, ensure a successful experience for your young equestrian.

No body warned me how much preparation goes into a single horse show. Whether it is a local day show or a week-long rated show. Between packing, budgeting, grooming (washing that horse the night before only for them to roll in mud overnight), nerves, and long days at the barn, preparation becomes part of the experience.

  • Establish a horse show budget.

  • Map out your horse show season, but stay flexible.  Weather and unexpected changes are part of horse showing.

  • Pack essential gear and supplies….and don’t forget the rider!

  • Patience.  There is a lot of “hurry up to wait” with horse showing.

  • Horse shows may be exhausting, but they also create some of the best memories and give riders the chance to showcase everything they have worked so hard for.
